There are a few different options for reaching Amsterdam's city center from Schiphol International Airport. A direct rail link is the quickest and most convenient way to reach the city centre. Trains leave every 10 minutes from platform 1 and 2 in the main plaza fro the low price of 3.4 Euro.
Airport Shuttles leave every 10 minutes and deliver passengers to over 100 different locations throughout the city. The cost of a one way ticket is 11 Euro and 17.50 for a round trip. Tickets can be purchased in main arrivals.
Taxis and Limos are available to take guests directly to there accommodation and rates start at around 40 Euro for 4 people. Please ask a customers service representative during your booking process if you would like to have more information.
Getting Around Amsterdam
With most of our apartments as well as attractions are located in the center of Amsterdam, walking is one of the best ways of getting around. Amsterdam is truly a wonderfully walkable city. Public transportation in Amsterdam is also fantastic and driving within the canal circle is highly discouraged. Want the true dutch experience? Then explore the streets of Amsterdam by bike. It is an amazing way to spend the day.
Buses, Trams and Metros are available for transport throughout all of Amsterdam and its outlying suburbs. It is run by a public transport company, GVB, and they offer integrated tickets for tourists. Purchase a 24, 48 or 72 hour pass and enjoy unlimited riding and transfers. You may purchase these tickets at any major train station GVB ticket office. 24 hour tickets can also be purchased from the GVB drivers and conductors.
Single tickets can be purchased from the drivers and conductors, however, beware of their steep price.
Trams are the best means of transport and operate daily from 7am to 12:15 am.
City Buses are primarily used to reach the suburbs, however night buses do run with connections to Central Station.
The Metro, while fast, is only useful if you are trying to reach the outlying areas of the city or to reach the Amsterdam Arena.
For more information you may visit www.gvp.nl for further details concerning public transportation in Amsterdam.
Canal Boats
See the attractions of Amsterdam accompanied by historical commentary. Canal boats depart every 40 minutes from 10am till 7:30pm with 3 routes and 14 stops in total. Tickets can be purchased for 16 Euro and are valid until noon the following day. For more information visit www.canal.nl
The Museumboat is a similar concept with visits to Central Station, Prinsengracht, Leidseplein, Herengracht, Muziektheater and the East Dock. Tickets includes half-price entry to most city museums. The cost of a ticket is a mere 14.25 Euro per day.
Bicycling
This is, in my opinion, the only way to see Amsterdam. There are a plethora of bike trails that will take you on an amazing exploration of Amsterdam. Rent a bike at one of the many bicycle outlets for approximately 8 Euro per day. Most places will give discounts for longer rentals. Give it a try and it will be easy to see how the Dutch have made this more than just transportation...it is a way of life.
