  1. As Birmingham becomes a top tier university amateur sports destination, it is also become a tourist hotspot. The city saw visitors spend 45% more money last year than in previous years. According to Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO John Oros, Jefferson County generated $2.2 billion in spending in 2021. (WBRC)
  2. An arrest has been made in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Dwaine Thomas, police say. Birmingham Police Department reported that Jemarien Goree, 18, of Fultondale, is in custody and will face a capital murder charge. Another suspect is also wanted in connection with the shooting, but has not yet been located, according to police. (ABC)
  3. Birmingham City Council has approved additional funding for emergency housing assistance. Much of the additional $6.6 funding will be used to respond to outstanding approved applications that were put on hold in February due to exhaustion of funds.
