- On Friday, Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin announced a change to the City of Birmingham’s current parental leave policy.. The new policy will give every city employee 12 weeks of paid parental leave. Mothers, fathers, adopters and foster parents are all eligible. Woodfin hopes this new policy will help make Birmingham a “fair and just society”. (WBRC)
- Commuters currently using Highway 280 should start planning alternate routes now. Tentatively from February 1, Birmingham Water Works will carry out a major repair project on the motorway which is expected to take 20 days. According to BWW, a 36-inch main infrastructure pipe is leaking in two sections of Highway 280, although it poses no danger to people living in the area. (Bham now)
- Pack Health, a Quest Diagnostics company, plans to create 200 new jobs in the Birmingham community with a planned expansion. Pack SantΓ© offers online health coaching which has attracted many new clients during the COVID-19 pandemic. To accommodate the influx of businesses, its $5.66 million expansion plan will see Pack Health’s square footage nearly double and open at least 200 new positions. (Yellowhammer News)

- Birmingham Police Service congratulates and celebrates its Administrative Assistant, Mrs Catherine Guinn, on her retirement with the City of Birmingham after 23 years! - The deadly EF-3 tornado of January 12 broke into the top 10 longest tornado tracks in Alabama at No. 6, according to the US National Weather Service of Birmingham..
