Here are the top 3 stories in Birmingham today:

  1. A local boy received $1,000 from Academy Sports + Outdoors to support his annual vacation package initiative. Ethan Hill, 12, started his nonprofit, Ethan’s Heart-Bags4Blessings, six years ago to support Birmingham’s homeless population. Hill and her family stock care packages with cold weather products such as sleeping bags, gloves and socks each year. (WBRC)
  2. A suspect has been charged in the robbery that led to the shooting of Birmingham property developer Briant Plott this summer. Antonio Aamad Steele, 31, faces charges of robbery and aggravated assault/attempted murder for his involvement in the June 12 incident. Steele has been incarcerated in Jefferson County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court later this month. (AL.com)
  3. A Birmingham woman has shared footage she captured of thieves stealing a Christmas present from her porch, just a few hours after delivery of the package. After spotting the so-called “porch hijackers”, Valarie Byers sent the video to her apartment complex and filed a police report. She says the stolen package contained a variety of gifts, many of which were for her daughter with special needs. Visit the link to see the video. (WBRC)
