Have you recently participated in a conversation in line for a water cooler or microwave kitchen at work? Chances are that one of the topics – perhaps the only topic – was the current economic crisis. Thanks to a collision of various factors such as the war in Ukraine and the pandemic, many of us are feeling a pinch in our pockets.

The data reflects our anxieties. Overall search interest in the terms “cost of living” and “inflation” on google trends has increased steadily over the past 12 months. However, for European workers, cross-border mobility with regard to labor markets is one of our greatest assets and, according to a recent study by Indeed Recruiting Labit starts to bounce back.

Indeed has found that when Europeans search for jobs outside of their home country, they prefer to search primarily in Europe. From January to April 2022, European countries were the destination of 62% of cross-border searches by Europeans.
