10 travel goals to add to your New Year’s resolutions

If there’s anything we’ve all learned over the past few years, it’s that life is short and fickle. Covid-19 has certainly changed perspectives on what is important and what makes life beautifully worth living. Assuming readers are here because they love to travel, it’s safe to say that adding travel goals to a New Year’s resolution is more exciting than restricting sugar intake or opting to learn to sew. (however, there is certainly nothing wrong with either of these lenses).

For globetrotters looking to up their own travel game, we’ve got a list of 10 goals to add to your list of New Year’s resolutions for 2023.

10/10 Visit at least 2 new countries

In 2023, make it a priority to visit not just one new country but two! Some regions make this feat much easier than it looks.

For example, for those planning to visit Rome, Italy, take a stroll through the Vatican, and congratulations, that’s another ticked spot!

Eastern Europe is also ideal for traveling countries. Many Eastern European countries are geographically small, making them sufficient to travel fairly quickly by train, bus or car.

Other regions that allow travel to multiple countries in one pass are Southeast Asia, Central America and, for those brave enough to face intense travel conditions, West Africa. .

9/10 Visit a new continent

For those looking to reach the goal of visiting all seven continents but haven’t reached it yet, 2023 should be the year to add at least one new continent.

Now that Covid-19 restrictions have apparently been lifted around the world, what about?

Head to African countries such as Tanzania, Kenya, Morocco or South Africa. Head to popular European hotspots such as Italy or France. South America’s summer is Northern Hemisphere’s winter, so for those looking to get out of the January and February tundras, head to sunny Brazil or Argentina.

For those who really want to get into it, start planning an Antarctic adventure.

8/10 Visit somewhere under the radar

Despite what social media leads the vast majority of us to believe, no everything must be fashionable. Why not head to a place where few fellow travelers head?

Places like Kosovo, Taiwan, Jeju IslandGuyana, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, and Svalbard are all great starting points. Even if you opt for a popular destination like Italy or the Maldives, try the local spots rather than the tourist sites; in Italy, head to the local beach town of Tropea, and in the Maldives, head to the local island of Maafushi.

The options for underrated destinations are truly limitless, and hey, it might just be up to you to find the best ones!

7/10 Visit somewhere “dangerous”

“Dangerous” is a subjective word, as each traveler’s experience varies based on their identity and personal experiences. What is meant by “unsafe” in this sense is heading to a place that may have a bad reputation, but may actually be fun to visit.

Examples include Colombia, IndiaEgypt, DMZ of Koreaand Iraqi Kurdistan. Traveling alone to one of these unexpected destinations can really add to the thrill.

Break some stereotypes in 2023 and show that the world is indeed generally safe.

6/10 Take a solo trip

Speaking of solo travel, why not make 2023 the year of self-discovery? Traveling alone can be wonderful for the soul. This forces adventurers to find ways to communicate with others who may not speak the same language, this will quickly catapult people out of their comfort zone (this is where growth happens, after all ), and it will give them unforgettable memories.

Find out what it’s all about and book a trip for 2023, one-on-one.

5/10 Explore more of your own backyard

If there’s one big travel lesson to be learned in recent years during the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s that travelers don’t need to travel halfway around the world to see the beauty of this world.

In fact, many gems are often hidden in our own backyards. Head to the nearby town and rent an Airbnb or a budget hotel for the night. Search for the nearest waterfall or lake and enjoy the serene sounds of water. For pet parents, take them on a mini-trip somewhere close to home.

Exploring what is already near us is a good reminder that there is beauty wherever we choose to look.

4/10 Splurge in a luxury hotel

Life is short: eat the cake, buy the shoes, and book the President’s Suite at a five-star hotel for the next getaway. There are luxurious options in almost every city, and while they may seem expensive, with the wise application of credit cards and rewards points, they won’t do as much damage to your wallet.

By far, one of the most luxurious experiences to have is staying at a Four Seasons hotel. Four Seasons can be found in the United States and abroad.

Heading to Disney World? Four Seasons Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort is the ultimate place to take care of yourself.

Finally arriving at the pyramids this year? When choosing accommodation, try Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza.

3/10 To go camping

Whether pitching a tent in the desert, road trip to epic places like New Zealand and sleeping in a van or glamping under the Moroccan sky, camping is something every traveler must experience at least once.

For those who have not yet participated in this outdoor activity in harmony with nature, try it in 2023.

If sleeping in a desert settlement tent seems a bit too daring, glamping is a great alternativethe most popular places to do so being at Wadi Rum, Jordan, Atacama Desert in Chile, Moroccoand many places in North America.

Not all travel has to be done by plane and, in fact, some of the best experiences can be had on a road trip. Think of all the places to discover from point A to point B that would have been missed during an overview.

Take a road trip in your home country or rent a car abroad and experience a new destination from the ground up.

The road trip is a unique and really fun way to travel; just download some good books on tape, find a good podcast, hit up the Spotify Year Wrapped playlist, and enjoy the ride.

1/10 Above all? Prioritize travel

There are plenty of tips for improving your travel bucket list in 2023, but the reigning one is to prioritize travel. It is easy to find excuses as to why we cannot travel as much as we would like; whether it’s money, lack of time or no one to go with.

If it’s money, choose a cheap destination or say no to more social events at home and put a few dollars a day for a travel fund. If that’s not enough time, start using three-day weekends, or weekends in general exploring your own backyard, as mentioned above.

If you have no one to go with, who said you need someone? Book this ticket and go on a solo trip.

Whatever excuses arise, if you use the year 2023 to prioritize travel, we promise you’ll have more epic journeys than you’ve ever had before.
