2 dead, 2 injured in Kansas City shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two people died and two others were injured in a shooting at a house party late Monday night.

According to the Kansas City Police Department, officers were called to the area of 73rd Street and Manchester Avenue to reports of a gunshot at 10:45 p.m.

Police found three victims with gunshot wounds. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The two slain victims have been identified as 26-year-old Deshawn Dudley and 20-year-old Dondre Hart.

The third was taken to hospital and a fourth victim arrived at the hospital later. Both were last listed as stable.

Neighbors FOX4 spoke to on Tuesday say they complained about house parties to prevent this from happening.

“I knew it was coming,” Lonnie Jackson said. “I knew it was coming. You can’t leave a thousand people or the number of people they had up there.

He has lived in the Candlelight Ridge neighborhood since 1973 and said it was a quiet neighborhood until a few years ago. Jackson said he and other neighbors called police and city officials about the home.

“It’s been a problem for over 3 years,” Jackson said. “Chocha-locka boom boom all night. That’s a shame.”

“We need help here,” Herman Gant said. “We need it now because what is happening should not be happening.”

When FOX4 shared the neighbors’ concerns in 2020, the home was listed as a private rental called “The B Estate.”

FOX4 recently spoke to one of the owners who said he no longer rents the house as an Airbnb. They said some students were using the house pool for a homecoming party where there were several security guards.

Police are asking anyone who may have information about the shooting to call Homicide Detectives at (816) 234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
