3-year-old boy shot dead after his own birthday party

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida – The toddler who died in a shooting just after a children’s birthday party on Saturday night has been identified.

Three-year-old Elijah La France was killed after gunfire broke out outside a house in Miami-Dade’s Golden Glades neighborhood, police said. The birthday party was for the boy.

Meanwhile, the party was being held at an Airbnb short-term rental, according to Miami-Dade Police.

“He (was) too nice. He doesn’t deserve it, ”said Elijah’s cousin, Adrien Annestor. “I wish it was me. To take my place. And then he could live.

A 21-year-old woman was also injured in the shooting, according to Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department. His identity has not yet been released.

Miami-Dade Police said it happened around 8 p.m. in the Northeast 158th Street and North Miami Avenue area. Officers arrived after receiving a ShotSpotter alert of gunfire.

The toddler who died in a shooting just after a children’s birthday party on Saturday night has been identified.

The shooting follows an altercation outside a house, Zabaleta said.

“I would say between 30 and 50 shots,” said neighbor Marc Anderson, who said he was working outside on a truck when he had to go into hiding for cover.

“People were running, so we hid behind his truck and some people ran and hid behind those two trucks,” Anderson said.

Police officers who responded first took LaFrance in their patrol car to a nearby hospital where a doctor declared the child dead, Zabaleta said.

“This boy was so happy,” Annestor said. “You took someone’s life. You took a special little child that day, you took his life away.

The woman who was affected was rushed to Aventura Hospital, where she is believed to be in stable condition.

Code compliance officers were out on Sunday to verify the rental.

Detectives ask anyone with information about the shooting to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477.
