30 electric buses ready to transport G20 delegations to Bali

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian government has prepared 30 electric buses named Merah Putih Electric Bus of medium size for the mobility of the participants of the G20 summit.

The bus will be used to transport delegations from their arrival at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar to the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) where the conference will be held.

The head of public relations at the General Directorate of Land Transport, Pitra Setiawan, said the 30 buses had already been gradually transported to Bali ahead of the peak of the G20 event.

“These buses could not be transported at the same time because the production is also done gradually,” he said in a written statement on Saturday November 12.

The production of the Merah Putih electric bus is 76.98% locally manufactured. It is a collaboration between state-owned enterprises and a consortium of national universities, namely Airlangga University, Gadjah Mada University, Indonesian Institute of Arts Denpasar and Institute of Technology of Surabaya.

“The buses had undergone technical inspection in Bekasi, West Java,” Pitra said.

In addition, 11 medium and large size electric buses will be provided to support the G20 presidency in Bali. So there are 41 fleets in total.

On November 1, buses were tested on the Ngurah Rai Airport – Nusa Dua route. There will be two teams and 60 drivers will operate the buses; 30 drivers in one shift. The bus will operate from November 11 to 17, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Bali time.

There will also be electric motorcycles in Nusa Dua provided free of charge by private companies with a total of 90 fleets.

“Electric motorcycle riders will serve G20 summit delegations and committees well,” Pitra said.

Motorbike service points are at Grand Whiz Hotel, Westin Resort Nusa Dua/Bali Convention Center (BICC), Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Bali Collection, Grand Hyatt Hotel and Courtyard Hotel By Marriott.
