ORINDA, Calif. — Some of the suspects and victims of a fatal shooting at a Halloween party in northern California have convictions and gang affiliations, authorities say.

Five people were arrested Thursday in connection with the shooting at an Airbnb rental in Orinda that killed five people and injured others.

Multiple shooters fired at the party and officers recovered four firearms, Contra Costa County Sheriff David Livingston said at a news conference Friday.

“In my 32 years in law enforcement, I have never seen a homicide scene like this,” Livingston said. “It was a bloodbath inside the house.”

Rival gang members fought inside the home, Livingston said, and someone tried to steal something from someone, which could have led to the first shootings.

He said some people “went to the party with the intention of causing harm and strife.”

Videos from social media and neighborhood cameras show “many, many people” entering the party with guns on their belts, and someone believed to be working as security is seen drinking Hennessy.

Criminal records among suspects

Livingston said four people have been charged with murder and conspiracy:

  • Lebraun Tyree Wallace, 28, of San Mateo, was convicted of DUI, driving with a suspended license, receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of an assault weapon.
  • Jaquez Deshawn Sweeney, 20, of Marin City, was arrested for fighting, displaying a firearm and possessing a firearm. He was seen entering the party with a gun and he was carrying a loaded 9mm pistol during his arrest, Livingston said.
  • Shamron Joshua Mitchell, 30, of Antioch, has previous convictions for assault with a deadly weapon, with gang enhancements and other criminal threats. Officers showed video of him jumping from a second-story window to flee from police during Thursday’s arrest, Livingston said.
  • Jason D. Iles, 20, of Marin City.

All are being held without bail.

Devin Isiah Williamson, 21, of Vallejo, has been charged with aiding and abetting. He is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Firearms were found on two of the dead, according to Livingston. Ramon Hill, on parole at the time of his death, had multiple arrests and a conviction for assault with a firearm, according to Livingston.

The Javin County file includes convictions for robbery, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, according to Livingston, adding that both were associated with gangs.

Others were injured as they fled the party, including someone who jumped 30ft from a balcony.

Livingston also said there was disturbance at Friday’s funeral for the victim, Oshiana Tompkins, which required a police presence. He had no further details.

The town of Orinda will meet Tuesday night to review restrictions on short-term rentals, Mayor Inga Miller said at Friday’s news conference.
