5 boutique hotels in Ayutthaya for your next road trip

When was the last time you took a road trip?

As we always try to stay safe but also maintain our mental stability (and satisfy that urge to travel), we are constantly looking for ways to change our weekends. We tried the staycations. We have been to Samui four weekends in a row. We know that Hua Hin and Cha-Am are nice. But we are running out of ideas.

Maybe it’s time to take a closer look at home.

One hour from Bangkok, Ayutthaya presents itself as an ideal destination for a road trip. You don’t have to stay very long, you can enjoy these huge local river shrimp, and you can even find time to merit in the beautiful ancient capital. Formerly very touristy, this is a nice time to go, as the temples and ruins are free of crowds, and the local community would really appreciate the support.

Ayutthaya has a lot of charms to offer and is perfect for an overnight getaway. Here are our favorite boutique hotels to discover during your stay.

Baan Pomphet

This one is probably our favorite at the moment, and if you’re looking to stay, be sure to book early. Comprised of just 8 rooms, Baan Pomphet is a marvel of modern Thai architecture, located on the riverside with panoramic views of Pomphet Fortress. Between red bricks and a vast swimming pool, it is an ideal place to relax amidst ancient ruins facing modern design.

If you are already a fan of the Sala Hospitality brand, you will also subscribe to it. Sala Ayutthaya is located on the river in front of the Phutthaisawan temple for a dream view from almost any room. The room types actually offer some variety, from split level rooms to even pool suites. We love the outdoor riverside patio, as well as the on-site art gallery which features visiting local artists.

More in the style of a contemporary Bed & Breakfast, iuDia has a warm atmosphere, facing Ayutthaya World Heritage Park from afar, overlooking the river on the other side. Between intimate courtyards and a large outdoor swimming pool, this is a charming getaway that combines history and modern comfort. Occasionally, guests may also participate in cultural activities and programs, whether it’s Buddhist meditation, yoga, or a class in traditional Thai music.
