5 Off-the-Beaten-Path Swimming Holes to Visit in Arkansas

Are you ready for summer? The Memorial holiday long weekend is fast approaching and some of the best swimming holes are located in Arkansas.

Many of you will be heading to the lakes, rivers, and yes, swimming pools to unofficially welcome the summer season. There’s just something special about finding an off-the-beaten-track swimming hole where you can launch yourself off a cliff or a swing to dive into the water.

Every year I try to show you some great pools in the state of Arkansas. Some of them may already be known, others may not.

This could be Arakansas’ hidden gem. Locals know but very few people know Lake Sylvie located approximately 38 miles from Little Rock in the beautiful Ouachita National Forest. This swimming hole reminds you of a distant time with its sheer beauty.

Another swimming hole off the beaten path is near Blanchard Springs Cavern in Mountain View, home of the Ozark Mountains. People travel for miles around to bathe, bathe and swim in this swimming hole with a waterfall.

This has long been a Texarkana favorite for years! Little Missouri Falls is located near Glenwood, Arkansas, in the pristine Ouachita National Forest. It has become a popular place for wading and swimming, in the clear, cool water alongside beautiful waterfalls, especially after a heavy rain. A perfect place to relax on the weekend, but better get there early if you’re going Memorial weekend as it gets really busy.

Lake Greers-Ferry near Heber Springs has become one of my personal favorites, it’s a large lake surrounded by wooded forest and rocky cliffs that you can dip into the water. The water has a light blue tint to it and this area is also known as a large fishing hole. There is also Airbnb cabins and homes you can rent which are right on the lake.

And finally, from the best swimming holes in Arkansas, Lake Ouachita located close to Hot Springs, has always been at the top of the list for those who have been there. Besides being the largest lake in the state, it is also home to Crystal Springs Beach, a swimming hole that will make you feel like you are on a tropical-like island. With over 700 miles of shoreline, many islands and plenty to do. Lake Ouachita is the perfect place to spend your summer with cabins, touristic complex, and incomparable rental properties. If you love diving, Lake Ouachita is one of the best places to do so due to its clear, clean water. There’s even a sunken city under the lake!

Hope you are having a safe and happy summer!

Many of the towns included jump out at the casual observer as popular summer rental spots – Branson of the Ozarks, Missouri or Lake Havasu in Arizona – it might surprise you to dive deeper into some quality of life offerings at beyond the beach and vacation homes. You’ll likely learn about a wide range of Americana: one of the last 1950s-style drive-ins in the Midwest; a Florida town that began as a retirement area for Civil War veterans; an island teeming with some of the nation’s best public schools and revenue streams smack dab in the middle of a lake between Seattle and Bellevue; and even a California town containing more than the prison blues of Johnny Cash.
