You Can Now Own Colonel Sanders’ House

According Food & Wine, devoted KFC fans (and/or stans of Colonel Sanders, the man behind the iconic fast-food chain), can now purchase the Shelbyville, Kentucky property that Sanders called his home from 1959 until upon his death in 1980. The house spans 5,000 square feet, much of which is filled with collectible memorabilia. The home lot measures an even larger 29,410 square feet. Even more impressive, the next occupant will be responsible for operating the Claudia Sanders Homemade Dinner, a 25,000 square foot restaurant and banquet hall that has over 100,000 annual visitors. On the menu: classic American comfort food, from fried chicken dishes (naturally) like those offered at KFC restaurants, to dishes like a charcoal roast that one would expect from a table-service establishment.

Even setting aside his explosive personality (with his flashy looks and matching clothing choices), Sanders has led a colorful life. According History.com, before founding KFC, the fast-food entrepreneur delivered babies and worked as a lawyer. The success of his restaurant franchise has also come with a healthy dollop of controversy, as Sanders once injured a business rival in a shooting and was sued for $122 million for making derogatory comments about the quality of food served at KFC under its new ownership. Details of the Sanders souvenirs that come with the house can be found at Real Estate Six Degreeswhere interested parties can request the selling price of the property from the listing agent.
