London Resort withdraws plans for highly anticipated ‘UK Disneyland’ theme park

The London Resort has been dubbed the UK’s answer to Disneyland and was aiming for a 2024 opening date, but the company has pulled plans to build in Kent.

The London Resort has withdrawn its plans

The highly anticipated London Resort theme park has withdrawn plans to build the site in Kent.

Dubbed the UK’s answer to Disneyland with an estimated cost of around £3.5billion, plans for the resort include a theme park, esports arena, hotel and concert venue, all on a single site on the Swanscombe Peninsula in Kent.

In an exclusive preview image from the theme park, we counted EIGHT large roller coasters alongside a helter skelter, steam ride and carousels. The resort had also shared a preview of the dinosaur-themed land that was to be part of the resort.

Earlier this year, the resort announced a revised opening date for 2025.

However, the company’s CEO, PY Gerbeau, has confirmed that the station’s bid is currently being withdrawn.

It said in a statement: “In the interests of the London Resort, we are withdrawing the current application; due to Tilbury’s classification as a freeport which means revisions are required to move the ferry terminal from Tilbury to Grays. We are working closely with Thurrock Council on this issue.”

It comes as the station already faced a hurdle last year when Natural England designated the Swanscombe Peninsula as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Following Tilbury’s classification as a freeport and SSSI designation, Gerbeau said the company had “acquired significant land as part of our mitigation strategy combined with our commitment to spend $150 million pounds for environmental improvements on the peninsula.”

He added: “These changes are considered material and as such require withdrawal and resubmission.”

However, there is still plenty of hope for thrill seekers who were about to add the resort to their to-do list, as the company plans to resubmit a new COD application by the end of the day. of this calendar year. Mr Gerbeau said the project would continue to work with the community and local authorities, saying the London Resort was “still 100 per cent committed to this incredible project”.
