‘A UFO! No, wait…’ Upside-down tent seen flying over Florida delights social media

(Tribune News Service) – An upside-down tent has been seen floating over Florida, but the weirdest part of the incident is that many Floridians don’t seem surprised.

“Meanwhile, Florida continues to Florida”, a person wrote on Twitter.

Photos of the flying tent has been posted on social media by meteorologist Matt Devitt of the WINK station in Fort Myers, and he admitted “it was a new one.”

“How crazy is that? Devitt wrote in an Oct. 26 Facebook post. “A large tent was randomly spotted floating high in the sky over Iona in Southwest Florida on Tuesday. Luckily no one was in it!

The photo was credited to one of the station’s viewers, and Devitt had no doubts that it was legit. He suspects the tent was “launched by a surface whirlwind”, the same force often credited with sending bouncy houses into the air.

Such vortices occur when the air near the ground warms and rises, prompting cooler air to fill the void, Devitt said. The resulting whirlwind of traffic creates a “lift to the sky”.

Responses on social media were humorous, including from Floridians noting that they are used to seeing the extremes of nature.

Airbnb references, and lots of editing quotation from “The Wizard of Oz” were also posted.

And yes, steal florida tent memes have already started to appear.

“This week’s sign that the Apocalypse is upon us”, Jeremy Seibert tweeted.

“Typical day in Florida,” Michael Salomonides job.

“A UFO! No, wait…is that a big tent?!” Denise Gutzmer wrote.

“Someone missed a great opportunity to tie ropes with a chair under this tent,” mike stanislaw said.

Iona is on the Gulf Coast of the state in Lee County.
