Airbnb blocks some overnight rentals for the 4th of July weekend to avoid the holidays – CBS Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Airbnb announced Monday that it will block some overnight rentals at its listings in Los Angeles and elsewhere to avoid large gatherings on the weekend of July 4.

On August 20, 2020, Airbnb enacted a ban on all gatherings of more than 16 people on its lists across the world. The ban is in effect until further notice, but that hasn’t stopped some in Los Angeles from hosting parties in Airbnb listings.

The company has implemented a similar ban on New Years Eve, preventing guests who don’t have positive Airbnb reviews from making overnight reservations for entire homes.

Likewise, those with a history of positive reviews will be able to book overnight bookings over the weekend of July 4, Airbnb said.

“Customers reported for hosting a disruptive party or breaking our rules on gatherings of more than 16 people are likely to be suspended or removed from the Airbnb platform,” according to Airbnb’s rules.

Over the Halloween weekend in the US and Canada, the company implemented a one-night reservation policy in all of its listings.

Company policy also states that it will remove announcements if the host has authorized a party.

The business can also pause an ad or ask the host to update their rules to emphasize that no parties are allowed if it is reported that the ad is disrupting the community.

Days after its passage, Airbnb suspended more than 50 listings in LA County for violating the ban. Registrations had been the subject of complaints.

“It’s more important than ever to stop large gatherings in today’s environment, and we support the local efforts of Mayor Garcetti and others to crack down on party houses,” said Airbnb’s director of public policy. in Los Angeles, John Choi, on August 24.

“We also hope that sharing these milestones today can raise awareness of our 24/7 neighbor hotline so that we can continue to strengthen enforcement of our policies across the county.”
