Airbnb created an 80-day trip around the world inspired by the classic book

If you’ve never read Around the world in 80 days, The classic adventure novel published in 1873, the premise looks like this: Phileas Fogg, a wealthy Englishman living in London, accepts a bet in an attempt to tour the world in, yes, you guessed it, just under three months. If he succeeds, he will earn £ 20,000, or around £ 1.6million or $ 1.5million today.

While there isn’t a grand prize at the end, you too can take a trip around the world on a Fogg-inspired journey. Kicking off Airbnb Adventure, the travel agency is hosting a sort of recreation, bringing eight guests to 18 countries on six continents this fall, all for less than $ 5,000 plus the cost of flights to and from. London.

Of September 1 to November 19, travelers will pass through an impressive list of countries: the United Kingdom, Romania, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Jordan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, China, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the United States, Ecuador, Chile, and Iceland. Accommodation, meals and transportation, which range from planes and trains, including boats, helicopters, cars and hot air balloons, are included in the tour price, as are activities.

You will go on an African safari, walk around Bangkok, go white water rafting and walk on glaciers through Patagonia … this is definitely a trip for the adventurous and active alike. Plus, you’ll have the chance to eat a ton of great food: sushi in Japan, fish and chips in the UK, asado in Chile. I’m already jealous of the lucky eight who landed a spot on this trip.

Open reservations Thursday June 20 on the Airbnb website; the 80-day trip is listed at $ 4,987 per person. Part of the profits from the experience will go to the Malala Fund, an organization that raises funds to enable girls to access safe, quality education.
