Airbnb has blocked nearly 80,000 bookings and removed 1,000 listings in the UK as part of a crackdown on anti-social behavior, the roommate said.

Bookings were prevented thanks to an automated measure introduced in August 2020 that prevents guests under 25 from booking entire homes in their area if they have fewer than three positive reviews.

The restriction follows incidents where hosts have seen their homes ransacked during large gatherings.

Airbnb (stock image) has blocked nearly 80,000 bookings and removed 1,000 listings in the UK as part of a crackdown on anti-social behavior, the home-sharing company said.

Airbnb took legal action in the United States against unauthorized parties, in one case, suing for breach of contract, misrepresentation, and fraudulent and illegal business practices.

In the past six months it has removed or suspended 1,000 UK listings because their descriptions said parties were allowed, which is against company policy as it tries to clean up its reputation .

The company has announced a series of additional measures aimed at ending anti-social behavior on UK properties.

This includes discounts on noise detection devices, strengthening its community support workforce, and stepping up house rules.

Airbnb Director of Public Policy Patrick Robinson said: “While the overwhelming majority of customers are responsible neighbors, we are committed to addressing potential issues of antisocial behavior on the Airbnb platform.

“Today’s measures mark another step in ensuring that stays are responsive and respectful of the communities that hosts call home.”
