Airbnb introduces new anti-party technology in hopes of combating unauthorized parties

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — Airbnb hosts may no longer have to deal with unauthorized parties hosted by their guests.

The company introduces its new anti-party technology designed to identify and prevent a potentially high-risk booking. Unauthorized parties are parties hosted by the guest without the knowledge or consent of their hosts, which may result in complaints from neighbors or property damage.

The technology will look at factors such as positive review history, length of stay of guest on Airbnb, length of trip, distance to listing, weekend vs. weekday, etc. . Guests who cannot make whole-house reservations due to this system can still book a private room or a hotel room through Airbnb.

Airbnb piloted a similar variation of this technology in Australia, where it saw a 35% drop in unauthorized party incidents. Due to its efficiency, Airbnb is now bringing the technology to the United States and Canada.

In July 2020, Airbnb implemented a temporary “Under 25” policy that prevented guests under 25 from booking entire home listings in their area. Since the policy was enacted, Arizona has seen a 55% year-over-year drop in party reports.
