AirBnb now offers the entire Somerset pub for rent
Let’s face it, isn’t it every man’s dream to own his own pub?
The traditional ‘Man Cave’ has now become something more than just a sofa in the garden shed with a TV and a beer fridge in the corner.
With our local hostels forced to close during recent shutdowns, it made us yearn for even more of our own set of optics and a beer pump.
What better way to try the tricks of the trade than to get away from it all and hire your own pub, complete with its own traditional bar, kitchen and five bedrooms to temporarily accommodate your whole family or group of friends.
The Fitzhead Inn near Taunton encapsulates everything you could possibly want to be the awesome owner (or owner) and the host will even show you how to pull the perfect pint.
The traditional 17th century Olde Worlde pub is located in the picturesque village of Fitzhead and guests will enjoy exclusive use of the entire pub during their stay.
The bar is fully operational with beer pumps, alcohol measures, glasses, refrigeration and everything you need.
There is a professional kitchen where you can even try the chef’s whites and impress your diners with a gourmet delight (a short induction will be given before use).
Breakfast food is provided for the first morning of your stay, and other arrangements can be provided with prior approval from the host.
Then you can sit back and relax and enjoy your favorite drink while soaking up the atmosphere of your own exclusive bar, and even have the freedom to utter the legendary phrase: “Git outta my pub”!
The Fitzhead Inn was bought by owners David and Lesley Clatworthy six years ago when they decided to leave London’s mad rush for the “good life” of Somerset.
However, after running the pub like a traditional guesthouse for three years, they realized that the support from the small local village was not enough to keep it afloat.
Mr Clatworthy said: ‘The only thing that kept it open were the rooms we rented out for bed and breakfast.
“I was lying on a beach in Fuerteventura when the idea occurred to me, why not leave the whole pub?
“He ticks all the boxes because you can take your whole family to the pub for the weekend and the accommodation is separate from the pub so mum and dad can go to bed while the kids continue to party.”
Mr Clatworthy said it was the only place in the country where you can temporarily ‘own your own pub’ and that it also accepts dogs, so your four-legged dog is welcome to have some fun.
There are five rental rooms for up to 10 people and you can purchase a keg of beer from the owners and bring your own spirits and other drinks. It is also a popular place for stag and hen parties.
Inside, the pub is divided into two interconnecting areas. One with the bar, dart board and tables to sit on while the second space is the living / dining room which consists of two sofas tucked away around the fireplace and TV.
“The pub is fully operational with its own cellar – it really is every man’s dream,” added Mr Clatworthy.
The Fitzhead Inn is now taking bookings for the fall and can be contacted through its website www.thefitzheadinn.co.uk or via AirBnB.
