Airbnb Suspends Orlando Area Ads Amid ‘Party House’ Crackdown

ORLANDO, Florida. – Vacation rental giant Airbnb has announced that it has suspended 40 of its listings in Florida amid a crackdown on party houses amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Now it’s a real security issue. It really is, ”said Ben Breit, spokesperson for the company’s Trust and Security division.

Breit said the company banned house parties in late 2019, but the pandemic has prompted them to impose suspensions on the public.

He said five Airbnb listings in the Orlando metro area have been put on hold, along with one listing in Tavares.

“They are basically excluded from the platform for any length of time,” said Breit. “Sometimes it’s 30 days, sometimes it’s permanent.”

Airbnb would not reveal the addresses of the suspended ads, so it was not possible for the police to indicate whether they responded to complaints associated with the parties.

Competitor Vrbo told News 6 that they also have strict house party rules in place.

“Vrbo will prohibit booking on our website to any traveler who breaks their rental agreement by turning a rental into an unauthorized party house and any owner or manager who knowingly authorizes it,” said a spokesperson for the company.

“It’s a real responsibility to operate a vacation rental in a neighborhood with people living on both sides,” said Breit. “The tip is people who have the right to a quality of life like everyone else. “

Both rental websites say if you see a tenant doing something illegal, call law enforcement.

Each business has its own hotline for neighbors to report house parties.
