Airbnb wants to pay for you and three friends to live anywhere for a year
Fancy making Zoom calls on the beach or learning a new language during your lunch break?
You’re in luck because Airbnb wants to pay for people to live anywhere for a year.
Inspired by the growing flexibility to work and live from anywhere, Airbnb launched a program that allows 12 people to live exclusively in listings on Airbnb for about a year.
Airbnb just wants you to share your experiences with them to help inform future product upgrades and innovations on the platform to better adapt to nomadic life.
Airbnb will cover the cost of accommodation and provide a transportation allowance for the duration of the program.
According to the Airbnb Travel & Life report, the share of stays of 28 days or more on Airbnb increased by 10% of nights booked compared to 2019 and Q1 2021.
And 11% of Airbnb’s long-term stay bookings in 2021 reported living a nomadic lifestyle, with 74% of consumers they surveyed in five countries expressing interest in living elsewhere than where their employer is based. after the end of the pandemic.
Through this program, attendees will provide real-world insight into features, services, and the nomadic living experience, which could help shape the long-term future of living on Airbnb, including:
- Product changes and resources that could help improve the life experience in the long run
- Ideal accommodation types for solo travelers or groups like families
- Links with members of the local community and businesses
- Better understanding of the financial benefits of travel accommodation
From young families to remote workers, creatives, empty nesters and more, Airbnb is looking for a diverse set of 12 people who can be part of the program for 12 consecutive months from July 2021 to July 2022.
Airbnb will help you list suggestions, local experiences, and more.
Participants who choose to host their primary residence on Airbnb during the program will be able to test the experience and opportunity to host while living nomadically, potentially earning additional money during their trip.
Long-term Airbnb guests and full-time travelers Debbie and Michael Campbell, known as The Senior Nomads, retired in 2013, sold their home, and began to travel the world “one Airbnb at a time”.
Now, eight years later, they’ve lived in over 270 Airbnb listings in 85 countries. They plan to travel and live in ten countries in 2021.
“The experience of living on Airbnb has been a real transformation for us,” said Debbie Campbell.
“Live Anywhere on Airbnb will give even more people the ability to see the world from a whole new perspective, just like we did. We are delighted to see more people live and work wherever they want.
Those wishing to embark on their own nomadic adventure can apply at www.airbnb.com/liveanywhere.
Once selected, attendees will begin their journey with programming on how to live on Airbnb from The Senior Nomads, members of the Airbnb research and product team, and Live Anywhere experts like traveling journalist Imani Bashir.
Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Each participant will be allowed to bring up to three companions to be part of the program.
