NEW ORLEANS – The month of May brings many times to celebrate for New Orleans residents, from Memorial Day weekend festivities to high school and college graduation ceremonies.
Read the following letter that was sent by Airbnb.
“In typical circumstances, Airbnb allows our hosts to set internal rules for events and parties that suit their communities. However, times are very different and public health must come first. To that end, we’ve already announced that we will not allow hosts to allow parties and events in areas where current public health mandates prohibit events and gatherings. “
While Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced that some businesses may gradually begin to reopen, she made it clear that gatherings were “limited to household size” and New Orleans police reinforced this point. This means that our new policy will continue to ban any type of party in an Airbnb ad in New Orleans until further notice.
Additionally, we have reinforced this policy by temporarily disabling the “event friendly” search filter, which is typically used so that guests can search for venues for responsible parties and gatherings. We continue to temporarily remove the “parties and events allowed” rule from the house rules of all New Orleans announcements that previously allowed parties. And, of course, we maintain our rigorous work to prevent and deal with unauthorized parties, which have always been off limits and reflect particularly serious abuses of our rules during this public health crisis.
During this difficult time, our host community has grown in an extraordinary way by providing 200,000 homes around the world to COVID-19 responders through Airbnb’s Frontline Stays program. We are incredibly proud of the hosts in cities around the world who have offered their homes to those on the front lines in need of shelter, and we thank them for providing this critical need of safe accommodation to one. so important moment in history.
As the government and health authorities relax mandates and guidelines around social distancing, we will assess these policy adjustments and provide updates for our community. The safety of our hosts and guests is our priority, and we thank them for their understanding during this difficult time.
