Airbnb’s job postings page was visited 800,000 times after job news from anywhere

After two years of working remotely throughout the pandemic, many companies began to force employees to return at the workplace. However, a considerable number of these workers expressed their dissatisfaction with this decision.

According to a recent report by Apollo Technique, an information technology and engineering agency, 72% of employees prefer a hybrid remote office model, working from home at least some of the time. A study of WFH research project determined that people in fields such as technology and finance value this kind of flexibility as much as a 10% salary increase.

At least one major company has taken notice. Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky recently sent an email to employees of the vacation rental company. He announced the company’s decision to let employees live and work wherever they want.

“Two years ago, the world was turned upside down” Chesky explained in the memo. “Our offices closed and we found ourselves working from our bedrooms, basements and home offices. Still, we had the most productive two years in our history.

He then announced the decision to allow Airbnb employees to work wherever they want in the United States and, with some caveats, internationally. He also announced the news on Twitter.

cheeky keep explaining what he described as the “key characteristics” of working for Airbnb:

  1. Employees can work from home or in the office, deciding what works best for them.
  2. They can move anywhere in the country and their compensation will not change.
  3. They can live and work in 170 countries for up to 90 days a year at each location.
  4. They will meet regularly for team meetings, usually at least once a quarter for about a week at a time.

Not only has the employee response apparently been overwhelmingly positive, but other job seekers have taken notice as well. According to a transcript of the company’s first quarter 2022 earnings callhis career page was visited 800,000 times after this announcement.

It’s unclear how many people typically visit this page, but the company currently employs more than 5,000 people global.

“I have always believed that you design the culture you want, or it will be designed for you”, Chesky wrote in his email to employees. I’m excited about this new design and giving you the ability to live and work anywhere. I think it will unlock incredible creativity and innovation and make working here really fun.

The company has physical offices in San Francisco, where it is headquartered, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Dublin, London, Paris, Singapore, and other cities around the world.

At the time of publication, the company job page had over 200 positions listed, including roles in communications, design, legal, marketing, sales, and other departments. The greatest need appears to be in engineering, where almost 50 jobs were open when we checked.
