Arizonans hope to cash in on Super Bowl rentals

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -The Super Bowl returns to the Valley on Sunday, February 12, 2023. If you have a place to stay and a car to drive, you have two things people will need when they come to town for the big game. The Waste Management Phoenix Open is also that week. The valley will be slammed, but you might earn some money.

Eddie Smith plans to make money. “Last year I decided that with the Super Bowl, the NCAA, waste management, I wanted to put myself in a position,” he said. Smith has two short-term rental homes on Airbnb and sells plants with her family at Plant Stand of Arizona.

But he digs his jostling side. He has also gotten into the car game and rents his Tesla on the Turo app. “I make between $500 and $1,000 on a single car after my car is paid for,” Smith said. He was so impressed with the profit that he ordered three more and now uses Arizona Tesla Rentals to manage his 4 cars on the Turo app.

And Turo says you don’t need the last car to cash in!

“A lot of people are just looking for a reliable car to get from point A to point B and a no-frills experience. Others are looking for the Bentley,” said Albert Mangahas, chief data officer at Turo.

And the same goes with where you stay.

“Whether it’s an RV or an entire home or an igloo or a lake house,” said Haven Thorn, North America communications manager at Airbnb.

Can you move in with a friend for the week? Airbnb’s figures might convince you.

“When Atlanta hosted the Super Bowl, the big game in February 2018, the local hosts collectively earned nearly $3.5 million from more than 11,000 guest arrivals and there was $180 million in activity economic generated throughout the city by the increase in tourism in the city. “, said Thorn.

Smith is so committed to his plan that he will soon be looking for a place to stay while renting out his properties. He’s going to rent an apartment for six months so he can book his two short-term rentals, and he’s telling others to do the same.

“I tell everybody I can,” he said, “it’s probably one of the easiest ways to make money,” Smith said.
