Aston Villa set to complete fourth transfer amid Manchester United concerns

Villa ready to welcome Olsen

Aston Villa’s move for Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen is in the ‘final stage’ according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Bordeaux and the Blues have been eager to add a third goalkeeper to their books to add more backup in Jed Steer and Emi Martinez.

And Roma boss Jose Mourinho did Villa head coach Steven Gerrard a favor after sanctioning his departure, which saw him agree to end Olsen’s loan at Sheffield United .

This should pave the way for Olsen to join Villa on personal terms, all agreed on a deal until the end of the season.

Romano said on Twitter: “Robin Olsen of Sheffield to Aston Villa is now in the final stages, deal in place. Final details to be ironed out.

“AS Roma will cancel the loan to Sheffield and then let Olsen join Aston Villa until the end of the season. Olsen has already agreed personal terms with Villa.”

The news comes after former Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny told the Blades to agree to end Olsen’s loan so he could seal his switch.

United’s concern over Ronaldo

Manchester United have been left to sweat over Cristiano Ronaldo’s fitness after he reportedly left training early ahead of the clash against Aston Villa.

Ralf Rangnick’s men have stepped up their preparations for Saturday’s trip to Villa Park – after knocking Steven Gerrard’s men out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford last weekend.

Scott McTominay’s header in the first half was enough to separate the two sides in a thrilling encounter in which Villa struggled to lose.

Ronaldo missed that match with a minor injury but looked set to return for this weekend’s encounter.

However, as reported The sun , the Portuguese could now be a doubt for the game after leaving training early on Thursday with a thigh injury.

The report says the injury is a ‘separate issue’ from the one who stood out in the FA Cup and was ‘discovered in training’.

Ronaldo is said to have been assessed by United’s medical team before returning home and using his own private oxygen chamber which aids recovery from injury.

Message from Savage’s Villa for Newcastle

Robbie Savage has told Newcastle United how the appointment of Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa has underlined the “value” of hiring a top manager.

Villa manager Gerrard made two sensational transfers in January after landing Philippe Coutinho and then following up with a £25m move for Lucas Digne from Everton.

And with Villa linked with a move for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, the signs are that Villa can expect an exciting end to the January window.

In contrast, and despite being backed by the wealth of Saudi owners, Newcastle signed Kieran Trippier and paid Burnley £25m to sign Chris Wood.

And Savage says Newcastle understand why Gerrard’s legacy as a former Liverpool and England captain has seen him secure two incredible deals.

He told the Mirror : “Steven Gerrard’s fantastic deals in the transfer window at Aston Villa underscore the value of a renowned manager.”

Leaving Trezeguet?

Galatasaray have reportedly entered into negotiations with Aston Villa over a move for Trezeguet.

According to Fanatic, the winger’s transfer is on the agenda having previously been linked with the Turkish club.

It’s still unclear whether Galatasary wants to make the Egypt international’s switch a permanent deal or a loan, but he remains on the fringes of Steven Gerrard’s squad.

And it has sparked further speculation about his future with Fanatik reporting talks have already begun.

Trezeguet has made 64 appearances but has only made one Premier League appearance this season, and with the arrival of Philippe Coutinho he is sure to slip further down the pecking order.

According to reports, Galatasaray are in the process of raising funds to complete the deal and this could lead to his exit in a move that could go straight to the wire.

Speaking about Trezeguet’s future today, Villa head coach Gerrard said: “Trezeguet is a unique situation,” said Gerrard. “He’s been out for seven months or a roundabout. He came back and obviously had a short appearance and went to the Africa Cup of Nations.”
