Bali tops list of Airbnb’s most searched winter destinations

The winter sun is calling and Airbnb travelers are looking for near and far journeys.

The accommodation-sharing platform released its winter 2022 update on Wednesday, revealing its most searched destinations this season.

Bali in Indonesia tops the list, with Kuta on the southwest coast of the island the most searched location for Airbnb users around the world.

Cradle of tourism in bali, Kuta is famous for its epic Indian Ocean surfing and party-centric atmosphere. It also enjoys year-round sunshine, making it a great winter getaway.

Malaysia’s largest city ranks second in the top 10 list. Kuala Lumpur attracts tourists seeking the blend of modernity and tradition that has made the Malaysian capital a favorite destination on Southeast Asian travel itineraries.

Completing the first three is from Brazil Ipanema. Famous for its namesake beach, Rio de Janeiro’s bustling neighborhood offers a diverse mix of cultures, stunning views of Morro Dois Irmaos hill, epic sunsets and leafy streets lined with bars playing Bossa Nova. The city is also known for its epic New Year’s Eve celebrations on the beach.

Asian destinations dominate the list, with locations in Thailand and Singapore also ranking in the top 10. Major Australian cities are also popular, while Malaga in Spain is the only European destination coveted by Airbnb users this winter.

Travelers are also keen to plan trips that include unique places to stay. The five most booked categories on Airbnb this winter are properties with amazing pools, tropical stays, accommodations in national parks and seaside paradises.

Having the right amenities is also always important, with Airbnb travelers filtering their searches to find listings with pools, Wi-Fi, kitchens, hot tubs and free parking.

As part of its winter update, Airbnb also announced the addition of new accommodation categories to the site.

Starting today, travelers can search for places that are ‘new’ – meaning they’ve been added to the site in the last 10 weeks – or ‘trending’, for listings that have received more views compared to the previous week.

Those coveted phenomenal views can search the new “top of the world” category to find stays 3,000 meters or more above sea level, and any travelers who need extra access can search the category of “suitable” properties.

A “game” category includes unique properties with fun amenities such as mini-golf courses, water slides, or basketball courts, and travelers seeking Korean culture can use the new “Hanok” category. to book a night in a traditional Korean house.
