Birmingham fans rave about Tahith Chong after Manchester United lender shines in new position

Tahith Chong made a strong impression on her Birmingham City debut as they started their season with a 1-0 win over recently relegated Sheffield United to the Championship.

The young winger is currently on loan to the Midlands from Manchester United for the season, having impressed in the pre-season with the Reds and scoring against Derby County earlier this summer.

He made his first competitive start in the game at Bramall Lane under Lee Bowyer, but the Dutchman lined up for a new position.

Rather than his standard wide stance, the 21-year-old started off the left side of a three-way midfielder and used his energy and tenacity to move around the pitch without the ball.

Chong was always able to pose a threat in the future, but it was his defensive work that caught the attention of his new fans as they praised him throughout the game.

Chong made seven tackles and five ball recoveries during his time on the pitch, meaning he made more tackles than anyone else during the game.

The youngster had cramps after 73 minutes and was replaced by loud applause from outside supporters in the stadium, and they hope he is in good shape for their next game after such a performance.
