Birmingham man suspected of armed robbery arrested in Nevada

(Birmingham Police, January 15, 2023)

BIRMINGHAM, MI – On January 4, 2023, at approximately 6:26 p.m., a 64-year-old woman was walking westbound on Harmon’s public sidewalk in the North Old Woodward area. An unknown man ran from behind and forcibly wrapped his arms around the woman. After a short struggle, he grabbed his purse and fled to the north of the area. No weapons were shown or involved.

The suspect used her credit cards at several locations in surrounding towns. Birmingham Police detectives conducted a thorough investigation with the assistance of our officer assigned to our multi-jurisdictional Special Investigations Unit, which is made up of several officers from neighboring agencies. A suspect has been identified and detectives presented their investigation to the Oakland County District Attorney’s Office, who returned an arrest warrant for one count of robbery – unarmed and three counts of financial transaction device – theft/retention without authorisation.

Detectives learned that the suspect had traveled to Nevada. With the help of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, Major Offenders Section, and the FBI Criminal Arrest Team, the suspect was arrested and is now awaiting extradition to Michigan to face arraignment. .
