Blackpool vs Rangers OFF as Steven Gerrard tackles pre-season prep shot
Rangers have suffered a heavy blow in their preparations for the new season after being forced to call off their friendly against Blackpool.
A Covid outbreak at the Seasiders meant clubs agreed to call off the rebound match at Bloomfield Road on Wednesday.
The Rangers admitted they were gutted after confirming the news with a statement on their website, but admitted they had no other option.
It is also a blow to supporters who were due to make the trip to the north-west of England and the club have urged supporters not to travel to Lancashire.
Steven Gerrard’s men will face Brighton and Hove Albion and Real Madrid in successive matches at Ibrox this weekend which will be the last matches before the big kickoff against Livingston at Ibrox on July 31.

Rangers, also paired with Malmö or HJK in the Champions League, said on their website: “We are disappointed to report that our scheduled friendly against Blackpool on Wednesday July 21 has been called off.
“Due to a COVID-19 issue within the Blackpool camp, both clubs have decided it makes sense to cancel this match.
“We recognize that this will be frustrating for both groups of fans, especially the 4,500 Rangers fans who have purchased tickets.
“Nonetheless, the current challenges presented by COVID-19 require pragmatic and difficult decisions. The health of our players and staff is imperative.
“We will notify fans in due course regarding ticket refunds. Fans will keep the MyGers points collected from purchasing tickets for this match.
“We advise fans not to travel to Blackpool now that the game has been called off.”
