Blackpool’s Kevin Stewart to feature in upcoming Boyz must-see matches

Acting Reggae Boyz head coach Paul Hall will approach the Jamaican team’s next two games as must-haves if the Boyz are to have any hope of qualifying for November’s World Cup in the Gulf state. from Qatar.

The Boyz’ situation became a bit more precarious after a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Mexico inside the National Stadium on Thursday night. This was after taking a 50and minute leads to a superb strike from Daniel Johnson and after going down to 10 men after defender Damion Lowe was sent off in the 46and minute for what was seen by VAR as a tough challenge for an opponent.

Jamaica next face Panama away on Sunday and Costa Rica at home on Wednesday and, according to Hall, “we want to take each game one game at a time.”

“The results went for us last night [Thursday] with Costa Rica winning their game [1-nil against Panama] so that leaves us open and still, if we can show the spirit and the desire and the determination and the resilience that we showed last night [against Mexico] we put ourselves in a good position to play against Panama and go in their place.

“I think they’re without their fans as well, so hopefully they’ll be handicapped by that and we can have some confidence to go out there and get a result,” Hall said.

Asked if Blackpool defensive midfielder Kevin Stewart is in line to make his Reggae Boyz debut in the upcoming games, Hall said: “We have to manage him, manage his minutes and hopefully that we will be able to bring him into the game and into the games because he is a good player and he helps us to progress on the pitch. We need to take a look at him because he only arrived two days ago so yes we want to get him on the pitch and me and my staff will have our deliberations and we will look at training starting point and where it will appear in the game”.

With five matches to go in the final round of FIFA World Cup qualifying in the Concacaf region, Jamaica retain sixth place.

The top three teams qualify for the FIFA World Cup at the end of the year, and the fourth team qualifies for the playoffs against the Oceania champions, likely against New Zealand.

Canada leads the standings with 19 points, one ahead of second-place USA with 18 points, looking to return to the World Cup after missing out in 2018.

Mexico are in third place with 17 points, while Panama (14 points) remain in fourth place despite losing 1-0 to Costa Rica. The top four are followed by Costa Rica (12), Jamaica (7), El Salvador (6) and Honduras (3).
