Boubacar Kamara posts cryptic message amid Aston Villa transfer backlash

Aston Villa’s new signing Boubacar Kamara – branded one of European football’s most promising young talents by Steven Gerrard – has posted a vague message on social media after sealing a free transfer from Marseille. The midfielder has come under heavy criticism from Marseille fans after rejecting the chance to stay and play Champions League football to, in effect, join Villa who finished 14th in the Premier League last season.

“You just made a fool of yourself with Marseille,” posted one OM fan, while another said: “I didn’t understand that choice either, prefer to play in England than France. Champions League with Marseille?

Kamara took to Twitter late last night and, in an apparent response to those angered by his move to Villa Park, said: ‘When the lie takes the elevator, the truth takes the stairs. Even if it takes longer, the truth always comes out eventually!

The 22-year-old flew to Birmingham via private jet with his wife Coralie and their two sons, Leeroy and Kingsley, before checking in at Bodymoor Heath alongside Gerrard, Johan Lange and the operations manager of Villa, Matt Bennett.

Kamara, meanwhile, quickly took to Instagram to post a touching farewell to boyhood club Marseille, and said: “The day before yesterday was my last game in these colors I’ve worn since I was 5. years. I don’t know if there is a nice way to say goodbye. But I couldn’t spoil the mood of this precious victory and qualification in the Champions League.

“It’s been a season’s work, for all my team-mates, my coach and his staff and for you supporters – ‘the 12th man’ – with your unwavering support, always there to push us no matter what. So now I can say a big THANK YOU and wish you the best.

“The story could have been different. But time will set the truth straight… I take a lot of memories with me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything. Always the first, always Marseille. BK4.”

Last month, Gerrard, Lange and Christian Purslow watched Kamara play for Marseille in their 3-2 win over Nantes before coming to see the France international at home, as Kamara added: “When I met Steven, Christian and Johan at home I knew Villa was for me. Their ambition, their determination to succeed matches mine. I can’t wait for pre-season to start.
