Brigantine, NJ, locals advise people how to deal with noisy tenants

So you just bought a house in Brigantine. Do you like it so far?

Apparently, new residents love everything about the Atlantic County beach community, just north of Atlantic City, except for the rowdy vacationers. Can you blame them?

There was a question recently posted on a locally based Brigantine Facebook group asking if anything could be done about people making noise in a rental property right next to the place of residence of the author of the original poster. This is a common occurrence in all the beach towns of the Garden State. However, when you are a permanent resident and have young children who need sleep, you can understand the unfortunate situation that is now a problem.

The original poster stated that their family had recently moved to Brigantine full-time. The house next door to theirs, however, is a year-round rental property. The question was, what exactly can be done against the noise and the party after the start of the island’s quiet hours?

In case you weren’t aware, Brigantine generally observed the hours from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. as quiet hours. Many people commented to let the original poster know that a city ordinance considers certain noise levels during these times punishable by noise control officer. Therefore, any party that gets too loud during these hours is considered a disturbance and can be reported to the police. Locals in the comments claim that once a police report is filed, the number of complaints is counted until the landlord is hit with hefty fines.

Of course, no one wants to rain on anyone’s parade. We all understand that renters and vacationers come to beach towns to have a good time. Yet when full-time local residents try to live their normal lives and get up to work the next day, sometimes that’s the problem. Fortunately, there is laws in place to help solve this problem if residents know where to look.
