Brit left stunned by crude anti-tourist graffiti in Spanish town – but not everyone is on her side

A WOMAN was shocked by anti-tourist graffiti while on holiday in Barcelona – but not everyone is against it.

Louise Beilby posted the video on TikTok while on vacation in the Spanish city with her husband.

She sarcastically captioned the video: “Barcelona is so welcoming.”

The images show numerous graffiti that read “tourists go home” across the city.

Another door had an artwork that said “tourism is killing the city”.

The video has been viewed over 1.2 million times, with some people agreeing with it.

Someone wrote: “If there was no tourism in Barcelona, ​​the economy would be in trouble”.

A second agreed: “I’m from Spain and I understand tourists can be a pain at times, but they’re literally the only thing keeping our economy stable.”

Another joked: ‘Tourists go home. Otherwise they would be residents.’

But most people sided with the locals, saying vacation rentals drove up house prices for the people who lived there.

Someone wrote: “I have seen how many tourists behave in Barcelona and other Spanish cities… I can understand that.

A second said: “Tourists are having a huge impact on the housing crisis, for example. A lot of houses for locals have been converted into Airbnbs and hostels.”

Residents of other vacation spots such as Lisbon, Cornwall and Edinburgh said they were ok with it.

One person wrote: “I totally understand that. I’ve lived in Edinburgh most of my life and the tourists were running out.”

Another Briton said: ‘Don’t blame them, I have to leave my London house next month as it is turning into an Airbnb.

Last summer a tourist in Cornwall was stunned after spotting graffiti telling visitors to ‘go die’.

And last month a woman was stunned by VERY rude tourists she encountered on holiday in Cornwall – and many said the situation had worsened since Covid.
