Cafe Torquay’s “salmon leg” menu option confusing
A Torquay cafe caused confusion among locals after they advertised a “salmon leg” on their menu board as a joke.
Cafe No 4 on Market Street was pictured with the menu board standing outside the cafe with the item advertised for £ 7.95.
But it was after the menu photo circulated online that confusion was sparked over what you would receive if you ordered the dish.

One person said “Evolution has finally started” and another commented, “Maybe this is a new breed of salmon? Perhaps they have evolved and now have legs, introducing a new species! “
Others tried to suggest what a salmon with legs looks like saying “Maybe an octopus 8 of us can have a leg” and another person wrote “Must be a hybrid fish” .
Someone else said, “This must be Torquay’s specialty.”
Owner Justin, who has run the cafe with his wife since April 2020, said the new menu addition that was added two weeks ago is a joke, though no one has fallen for it yet.
He said: “It was something you did years ago in the 80s and 90s where if you had an intern it was kind of a practical joke.

“If you were really busy at work one day you would go ‘quick, run and get me a salmon leg’ and they would come back confused.
“Catering is a pretty stressful thing and you have a bit of fun breaking it up a bit.
“My friend said ‘look, you’re famous’ after the menu photo was posted online, I said I didn’t really want to be famous for it but I don’t mind.”
Justin says that although he was added to the board for a bit of a laugh, if anyone comes and asks, he’ll serve him a crusted salmon with a twist.
He said: “I’m going to fry some bread and add some salmon and make it look like a leg.
“It will be a crispy thigh with a fresh salad.”
