One of the best parts of a vacation is the food and there is no point in denying it. There is a kind of magic to experiencing an exotic meal or tasting a fish dish and knowing that said fish was caught that morning, without even dabbling in tropical desserts. Martinique has long been hailed as one of the best cuisine in the Caribbean and its French roots display it in all its glory. That being said, a number of cuisines have been incorporated into the Martinique style to result in tasty and daring dishes, especially African and South Asian. Home of jerk chicken, Jamaica is undoubtedly a great food destination. Saint Lucia has also been hailed for having some of the best food in the Caribbean as well as some of the most breathtaking vistas. It’s easy to say that Trinidad’s street food is where any foodie should start, and they should be on the lookout for other traditional snacks such as paratha roti.
Saint-Martin is beautiful, and luckily the delight of its food also matches the beauty of its views. Visitors to this island are in luck as they will have both options from Saint Martin and Sint Maarten. The former offers the best of Creole-inspired seafood dishes while the latter is heavily influenced by the Netherlands, with a touch of the Netherlands and the Caribbean, such as the use of jerk seasoning.
Puerto Rico has always been known for its outrageous flavors and that’s certainly one of the reasons to add this vibrant country to any bucket list. The country’s cuisine is a unique blend of three dishes: Hispanic, Taino, and African, resulting in a truly diverse range of dishes unlike any other in the Caribbean. Empanadillas are always a favorite with visitors, which can be found filled with a variety of meats, spices, and vegetables before being deep-fried into a delicious batter. Pastelón is a beloved traditional dish that can be found in many restaurants across the country, and it’s yet another food that should be on any visitor’s list.
The Dominican Republic is another hailed destination for its beaches, nightlife and entertainment, but it should also be applauded for its Caribbean offerings. While much of it is inspired by the surrounding Caribbean islands, it also has a fairly significant Middle Eastern influence, which adds fun twists to many of its dishes. Mangú is a local favorite and is also the best mashed plantains you’ve ever eaten, while pan pudin is a dessert travelers will dream of long after catching the flight home.
