Coming soon: Opening of seven restaurants and bars in the Birmingham area

Hearing about a new restaurant or bar opening is almost always refreshing news, especially given the past two tumultuous years of closures, labor shortages and food prices. While there won’t be a “return to normal” in the restaurant industry for the foreseeable future, restaurateurs are doing their best to move forward. At least five new restaurants have opened in the Birmingham area in the past month. Can’t wait to add more restaurants to your list? Look for these upcoming restaurants and bars.

Oh fuck

Aww Shucks, Birmingham’s popular Guinness World Record-winning food truck specializing in fire-roasted corn, is opening a brick-and-mortar location. The owners plan to open the storefront in North Avondale later this fall. The new location is expected to sell fire-roasted corn, creamy corn-stuffed baked potatoes and various vegetables, reports the Birmingham Business Journal.

Golden Rule Bar-BQ, Kemp’s Kitchen

Two popular Trussville restaurants are set to make a comeback. Restaurateur Brian Kemp plans to bring the two famous Trussville restaurants to a new location under one roof. Construction of a building that will house the new Kemp’s Kitchen and Bakery and Golden Rule BBQ and Grill will begin September 28, 2022. The new building will open in the original Golden Rule building near South Chalkville Road in Trussville on September 1 december. reports the Trussville Tribune.

Red bike cafe

Based in Irondale roaster Red Bike Coffee Co. is set to open a brick-and-mortar store in the Crestwood Mall at 5512 Crestwood Blvd., according to reports from Bham now and the Birmingham Business Journal. The cafe will take the place of the former Crestwood Coffee, the popular cafe which closed in April after 18 years in business.

Hi-Wire patching

Nine months after announcing a Birmingham location, North Carolina-based craft brewer Hi-Wire Brewing is ready for the public. Hi-Wire Birmingham will host its grand opening on Sunday October 2 from 12 p.m. The brasserie has also announced its opening hours: Monday to Thursday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.; noon to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays; and from noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Baja California

Jaimae Hernandez, the owner of Baja California in Gardendale, plans to expand his business with a new Baja California Cantina location at 7701 Crestwood Blvd in Birmingham, reports the Birmingham Business Journal. The restaurant should open its doors in October and will be able to accommodate more than 150 guests.

pop ramen

Pop Ramen is the new mobile dining concept from owners of Melt Avondale– Harriet Despinakis and Paget Pizitz– and chefs Cory Bolton and Chef Addison “Cobra” Porter. The food truck will be out during the day, as well as late at night. Along with a selection of ramen with an array of toppings, Pop Ramen will also serve snacks such as chilled green tea noodles, loaded goya and wok chicken thighs, reports the Birmingham Business Journal.

Culinary abandonment

The summit will house the first Alabama Culinary Dropout location. Fox Restaurant Concepts, founded by James Beard-appointed restaurateur Sam Fox, has announced that the restaurant will open late next year, joining sister restaurant North Italia. Dubbed by some in the restaurant business as a gastropub, Culinary Dropout mixes comfort food and cocktails with live music.
