Crashed cyclist airlifted to hospital in critical condition

A cyclist was airlifted to hospital in critical condition after a collision involving a stationary pickup truck.

The crash took place on Charminster Road – between the junctions of Malvern Road and Claremont Road – around 11 p.m. on Wednesday 23 June.

The cyclist, a man from Bournemouth in his 20s, was treated at the scene by paramedics and airlifted to Southampton General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Dorset Police are now asking any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

The collision involved a red pickup truck derived from a Vauxhall Combo car, police said.

Police Sergeant Rhys Griffiths of the Traffic Unit said: “We are investigating to establish all the circumstances of this collision and I call on all witnesses to come forward.

“I urge all motorists who were traveling in the area and who have installed a dash cam on their vehicle to check if there are any relevant images that could aid my investigation.

“Finally, I would like to thank the motorists for their patience in closing the road, which was absolutely necessary to allow emergency services to get to the scene safely and to provide medical attention.”
