Dad in disbelief after being quoted £ 71,000 for stay in Cornwall

A father of three was stunned after she was quoted £ 71,000 for a weeklong stay in St Ives in Cornwall.

The modern three-bedroom house in the popular beauty site was priced at £ 10,232 a night for a week-long stay, starting August 14.

Councilor Paul Nickerson was searching the internet for a summer vacation for himself and his family, with three young sons aged five and under, when he came across the list.

He searched for a property that could sleep five in scenic St Ives Holiday and a mid-sized house came up as a suggested booking of £ 71,627 for the week, more than double the UK annual salary, which is 31,000 £.

Paul told Hull Live: “Everything I have seen is about 50% more than their normal price. We have a young family so we normally have a stay in UK because it is easier.

“It’s normally affordable for a family, but it was shocking.

“I thought this must have been a mistake, but after checking other properties it is clear that this is not the case, as they all are much more so.”

He said vacation home owners and businesses are exploiting the lack of available properties and the limited choices people have for vacationing this year.

He said: “It’s a supply and demand problem and they are exploiting it. A lot of people in the UK need and want vacations, but many will not be able to afford it.

“I don’t know of anyone who can afford £ 71,000 for a week’s vacation.”

The holiday agency has marketed the St Ives Holiday Home as a “contemporary, inverted level property ideal for families”. It’s near where the G7 summit of world leaders including Boris Johnson and Joe Biden was held last month.

Paul said he had given up on looking for affordable properties in Cornwall and was now considering camping in the South East Yorkshire Bay in Bridlington.
