Devon beats Cornwall as ‘best holiday destination’ in cost, beaches and availability | Travel News | Travel
Devon and Cornwall are among the UK’s most coveted domestic holiday destinations, thanks to their stunning natural scenery and aquamarine coastal waters. However, according to a new study, it’s Devon that takes the crown as the “best destination to stay” between the two.
Experts at the hotel booking platform hoo analyzed costs, availability, beaches and general tourism figures to determine which of the two southwestern regions came out on top for the holidays.
According to hoo research, “Devon reigns supreme” when it comes to the cost of a stay.
They found that the average rate for a hotel room for a long bank holiday weekend in Devon is £ 155 per night.
“The same stay in Cornwall will cost you £ 172 per night, 10.6% more,” the study says.

When it comes to vacation activities, both regions are famous for their stunning beaches and stunning coastlines.
“Both areas are home to some of the best beaches the UK has to offer, but Devon takes the top spot in this regard,” the hoo report said.
Experts based this conclusion on the Blue Flag awards.
These globally recognized awards rated beaches on their quality, as well as water, environmental and safety aspects.
Cornwall is home to 10 respectable Blue Flag awarded beaches, but Devon beats that number by two, with 12 beaches holding the prestigious distinction.
Among them are Blackpool Sands Beach, Dawlish Warren Beach, Exmouth Beach, Oddicombe Beach Sidmouth Town Beach and Westward Ho! Beach.
Evidence of Devon’s appeal, experts say, can be found in its annual domestic tourism figures.
Although Cornwall has a notable draw, with around 3.2 million Britons flocking to the area each year, Devon “takes the crown”.
The popular region attracts 3.4 million vacation seekers looking to swim, explore, relax and unwind.
“While it certainly looks like Devon is winning from a tourism standpoint, our personal opinion is that you can’t go wrong either,” said hoo co-founder Adrian Murdock.
For those who can’t choose, Murdock recommends having the best of both worlds.
As Cornwall was recently named Honda’s Best Road Trip Destination in Europe, it’s the perfect excuse for a day trip.
The journey time from central Devon to central Cornwall is only one hour and 33 minutes.
“Combining a visit with both is a win-win situation and it can rival any stay abroad,” he said.
