Do you like sushi? These 6 spots in the Kalamazoo area are said to be the best
I don’t think there was ever a time when I said no to the sushi offer. With that in mind, a recent post from the Facebook group Kalamazoo Foodie posed the question: who has the best sushi in Kalamazoo?
The post you can see herewas made by Brittany b. and quickly got over 30 responses. Among these answers, here are the first 6:
1. Toba Sushi
Easily one of the most popular suggestions, Toba Sushi and Grill is a new addition to the Kalamazoo area. Located on Drake Rd, they describe themselves as a modern Korean/Japanese restaurant on their website. Although they don’t have a huge social media presence, they apparently have some fantastic sushi like Torie S. commented,
Toba is THE best sushi you can get in Kalamazoo. The rolls are great too. But if you want the freshest fish around, save time and head to Toba. I recommend the Sashimi / Sushi Combo.
Find their full menu here.
2.Sakura 2
By/Google Maps
Established in 2009, you’ll find Sakura 2 off Westnedge in Portage Crossings plaza (the same plaza as Target). They offer both hibachi and sushi food options and claim to be 100% local. They have also been recommended more than once on the Facebook post mentioned above by people like Chelsea E. who simply said, “Sakura 2…it’s consistent.” Find their complete menu, their schedules and much more about their website.
3. Marou Sushi + Grill
Maru Sushi + Grill in Kalamazoo was suggested by Mandi B. Although they have sister stores across the state of Michigan, the local establishment recently had to close indefinitely due to internal issues. However, judging by Maru’s recent Facebook post (see above), it looks like they’re open again at a limited capacity. See their full menu, hours, and more here.
4. Ziki Japanese Restaurant
By/Google Maps
Ziki Japanese Restaurant, or Ziki Sushi & Steakhouse, is located on Center Avenue in Portage and was recommended by Molly B.., Bridget R.and Jay R. as the best place for sushi in the Kalamazoo area. According to their website, their restaurant “is known for its variety of tastes and fresh, high-quality sushi.” Find their complete menu and even order online on their website.
5. Kumo Hibachi and Sushi
Another popular suggestion, Kumo Hibachi and Sushi is also located in Portage. This place has been recommended by Coty P., Sierra F. and Marie J. among others. They offer a sushi bar where you can watch sushi being made, a separate area for hibachi tables, and regular and casual dining. Find their full menu and book here.
6. Pacific Foods
I’m so happy to see this hidden gem recommended as a great place for sushi. Pacific Rim Foods operates like a grocery store with Cravings Deli inside. They have daily specials, a cold checkout where you can grab a take-out meal, vegan options, and a ground After. Check out what Pacific Rim and Cravings Deli have to offer on their website.
There. According to Kalamazoo locals, these are the 6 best places for sushi in the area. And just like that, I crave ALL the hibachi and sushi I can stomach.
Speaking of which, if you’re more of a crab rangoon type (I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t like crab rangoons), there are several options to satisfy that craving in the Kalamazoo area:
