Dublin 8 has been named one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world

Each year, we poll tens of thousands of readers about the best places to go out in their city. We want to know where the most amazing food is, where the most vibrant bars and nightlife are – and this year more than ever, where the community really Questions.

The result is our annual ranking of the coolest neighborhoods in the world. This year the public vote – based on the responses of our Dead time index investigation – has been supplemented by the opinions of Time Out editors and contributors around the world. Our panel of experts then sat down to classify the lot.

It’s a mix of the thrilling metropolises you’d expect – Berlin, New York, London – and smaller cities like Accra, Tbilisi, and Oaxaca. Oh, and there is also a Dublin area on the list.

Our Dublin expert wrote that “Dublin 8 captures the essence and charm of the Irish capital in a tee shirt”. Over the past year, the region has seen a multitude of positive changes: Fortunate pub has been transformed into a cultural hotspot with excellent rotating exhibitions, while Pearse Lyon reintroduced tours of its church distillery.

Green spaces like the War Memorial Gardens Where Phoenix Park means you can pair a day of vintage shopping with something more outdoor – or you can head straight to MVP for a pint.

Sounds like a dreamy part of town, right? If you’re a local, you might have already discovered the joys of Dublin 8. But for everyone: add it to your bucket list ASAP.
