Enjoy life on the edge of New York’s Small Grand Canyon

The 14,427-acre Letchworth State Park spans two counties, Livingston and Wyoming, and is filled with multiple waterfalls and scenic views. The state park is enough of a draw to the area, but when you discover the adorable Airbnb in town and the quaint restaurants, it becomes even more of a bucket list destination than before.

Overlooking Letchworth, near the entrance to the park, is Rw How West Barn. Many travelers will use Airbnb to find affordable accommodation, and that’s great for that, but Airbnb is not only affordable, but also has a wide selection of unique properties for you to check out. When you first arrive at the barn, the exterior doesn’t look like much. As you look around, admiring the surroundings, you will see a few different animals on the property like chickens, Scottish Highland cows and pot-bellied pigs that you can interact with. When you walk into the Airbnb, you’ll immediately see a huge open plan design with repurposed furniture and gorgeous embellishments, creating a vintage luxury look in the rustic barn. Amanda, one of the owners of Airbnb, has such a sense of design and has really made this property amazing. It is the perfect place to relax and soak in the tub after a day of hiking.

Letchworth State Park

Of course, while you are in Perry, you must take the time to visit Letchworth State Park. Almost 27 km long, the park is full of views of deep gorges, mighty waterfalls and hiking trails. They even have a horseshoe-shaped river, giving the area the name of the Grand Canyon of the Northeast. The Upper, Middle, and Lower Falls are gorgeous to see in person, with the sunlight catching the mist from the falls, creating a rainbow.

Balloons over Letchworth

Another amazing way to see Letchworth State Park is to take a hot air balloon ride over the gorge. The trip can last from 3 to 4 hours; there needs to be just the right amount of wind to move the ball, but not too much so that you end up in someone’s backyard. Weather permitting, it’s an amazing experience, especially in the fall when you can see all the beautiful leaves changing.
