Eviation Alice makes its maiden flight

(09/29/22)
Alice, an all-electric aircraft made by Eviation, made its maiden flight on Tuesday.

The plane took off at 7:10 a.m. from Grant County International Airport (MWH), flying for 8 minutes at an altitude of 3,500 feet.

The flight was used to provide Eviation with invaluable data that will allow the company to further optimize the aircraft for commercial production.

Alice is powered by two magni650 electric propulsion units from magniX. Other key suppliers include AVL (battery carrier), GKN (wings), Honeywell (advanced electric flight control system, flight controls and avionics), Multiplast (fuselage), Parker Aerospace (six technology systems) and Potez (doors) .

Alice is expected to be available in three variants: a nine-passenger commuter, a six-passenger executive cabin and a freighter version. All configurations support two crew members.

The aircraft has a maximum operating speed of 260 knots and a maximum load of 2,500 pounds for the passenger variant and 2,600 pounds for the cargo version.

“Today we enter the next era of aviation – we have successfully electrified the skies with Alice’s unforgettable first flight,” said Eviation President and CEO Gregory Davis. “People now know what affordable, clean and sustainable aviation looks like for the first time in an all-electric fixed-wing aircraft. This groundbreaking step will be at the forefront of innovation in sustainable air travel and will shape both passenger and cargo transportation in the future.

Eviation Alice should be used on flights ranging from 150 to 250 miles.

Cape Air and Global Crossing Airlines, two regional airlines based in the United States, have respectively placed orders for 75 and 50 Alice planes.

DHL Express is Eviation’s first cargo customer, with an order for 12 Alice eCargo aircraft.

“Alice’s maiden flight represents an important step in the transformation of the aviation industry,” said Dan Wolf, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Cape Air. “We currently operate over 400 regional flights per day, connecting over 30 cities across the United States and the Caribbean. Alice can easily cover 80% of our flight operations, providing sustainable, emissions-free travel to the communities we serve. »
