Family of Edinburgh mother who died at party raising money for her funeral
The niece of an Edinburgh woman who died in a horror accident on her way home from a night out has set up GoFundMe to help support the family.
Suzanne Farrell was returning from a party on Friday May 6 when she was tragically hit by a Vauxhall.
The accident happened outside the Hoppy Bar on Marionville Road in the Meadowbank area of the city. Suzanne was rushed to hospital but unfortunately her daughter was forced to make the decision to turn off the life support devices on Saturday 7th May.

Now Nicky, Suzanne’s niece, has decided to start a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Suzanne’s children, both to help pay for the funeral and to help them grieve.
She says the situation has completely devastated the family. Suzanne’s grandson, John, lived with Suzanne and did so all his life. With the loss of his grandmother and guardian, Nicky says he feels completely lost.
However, neighbors and members of the local community all reached out to offer their condolences, even though they didn’t know Suzzane personally, which Nicky says makes a huge difference.

We spoke to Nicky, who said:
“So, obviously, it happened to my cousin’s mother. We found out about it early Saturday afternoon. My mother found out about it in the wee hours of the morning around half past six. and she told me when I got home from work.
“She told me Suzanna was tragically run over by a car on Friday and her daughter had to turn off the machine on Saturday morning. Obviously, she found it very difficult to turn off the machine, so she had to ask another family member to help her.
“We were all devastated by the news because she was just enjoying a night out. We don’t expect that to happen but obviously my cousin is struggling and I thought Suzanne would give to anyone so if I set up a little GoFundMe and something will help I know that my cousin would appreciate it.
“They [the family] are totally devastated and broken, grandson-John-has lived with Suzanne all his life and he basically feels like he is alone. He’s with his aunt at the moment, Suzanne’s daughter, so we just want to give him some support as well.
“There have been people contacting us, messaging us and strangers donating to GoFundMe and I’m so thankful for that. Lots of neighbors, we all got together and offered our condolences and we are so grateful that people are trying to support the family during this time.
