Family see price of booked Cornwall holiday increased by £ 650

A family who booked a UK holiday a year ago saw the price increase by £ 650 just before they left.

Shelley and James Keeble booked a holiday to St Ives, Cornwall with their son Myles and secured them for £ 1,638 for a week through Airbnb.

The property changed hands last month and they were told the new owners would honor all reservations.

But they were then told there would be an increase of £ 650 to stay in the property.

The family say they were told to pay the 40 percent increase – or the vacation would be sold to someone else.

Shelley, 48, from Nantwich, Cheshire, said: “What they’ve done is just horrible. We couldn’t tell Myles.

“Do you remember turning 10 when you saw where you’re going to stay and how exciting it was?” How do you tell a 10-year-old that you don’t have a vacation? “

The former owner explained that Airbnb couldn’t exchange booking contracts, so Shelley and James would receive a full refund and the new owners would be in contact to reorganize.

“We hadn’t heard anything, so James is starting to try to find out who the new owners are,” said Shelley.

“He emailed them, and they were like, ‘well yeah if you want a vacation you can go online, we have a reservation system. “”

But when James went online, he saw that the chalet had already been reposted for the exact same dates.

Assistant practitioner Shelley added, “When I came back to see the ad, I felt sick.

“James tried to tell them that we had booked this vacation since last year.

“But they said,” It’s not our fault that the owner canceled your reservation and what their terms and rates were a year ago is irrelevant.

When asked to explain the steep price increase, Shelley said they were told the new owners are “upgrading the cottage to bring it up to the level of properties they already own.”

“These people are not disclosing the impact this has on families,” she said.

“We were lucky not to be put on leave, but how many people suffered loss of income?

“By what right can we change a holiday like this?

“If I had gone looking for a vacation in May for £ 2,275 I would have paid for it.

“But why would I pay it now when I paid last year to avoid these costs?”

“We booked it last September to be notified – knowing we are leaving.”

Luckily, after sharing their woes online, the family was granted alternative leave for the same period.

“A lady showed up in private and offered us her cabin,” said Shelley.

“She’s just adorable. I think the one we have now is better.
