Famous Newark hair salon INIZIO to open cafe, wine bar and Airbnb at The Wharf

A show that’s been in Newark for 13 years is going to bring two new high-end companies to town.

Inizio, on Stodman Street, hopes to move to Harbourmaster’s former premises on The Wharf.

Next to the new lounge will be a cafe that will turn into a wine bar on Friday and Saturday nights, while upstairs will be an Airbnb.

“We were really aware that we wanted to be inspiring and dynamic. We knew we had to add something new and exciting to our brand,” said Inizio owner Les Jones.

“Our brand has always been creative, inspiring, and we spend a lot of time in London and places like that. We’re inspired to create a space where customers have a destination.

“It will be something completely different and unique.”

Working on the project is one of the UK’s leading architects, Charlie Hearn, who found great inspiration for a funky living room.

“We wanted to offer something that we felt Newark lacked, to provide different choices,” Les said.

“We hope it’s a space people love, come visit and support.”

The long-established Newark-based company currently has eight team members, but as the business grows, it will need a larger team for the various hospitality and retail departments.

The whole affair will be high-end, with luxury and London.

The concept used is to work with local wine shops and the food served on Friday and Saturday evenings through a well-known butcher, whose name will remain secret until the open day.

The hair salon will retain the Inizio name, and the wine bar and café, which will be in a separate unit, will be called Not My Monkey.

“The name comes from a Polish saying ‘Not my circus, not my monkey’ which means we don’t want to be shrouded in negativity, carry on with our stuff and enjoy it with people like us, it’s a positive saying,” Les said.

It is hoped that the new business will be ready to open in December.
