Kapsch TrafficCom – First quarter results 2022/23

Strong points.

  • Revenue increased by 3%

  • Strong development of the components business (+20%).

  • Due to a stronger US dollar and higher nominal compensation, personnel costs increased despite the decline in headcount. This led to a decline in operating profitability (EBIT).

  • The seasonal evolution of working capital resulted in a negative free cash flow.

„The economic environment remained very difficult in the first quarter. Nevertheless, we managed to increase our revenues by 3% to 130 million euros compared to the first quarter of the previous year. Despite the increased costs, we were able to close the quarter with a positive EBIT. For the rest of the year, we will continue to focus on new business acquisition on the one hand and cost management on the other,” says Georg Kapsch, CEO of Kapsch TrafficCom.

Vienna, August 17, 2022 – Kapsch TrafficCom succeeded in increasing its revenues by 3% to 130 million euros compared to the previous year. Higher operating expenses, partly due to inflation, caused the operating result (EBIT) to fall to 1 million euros (previous year: 7 million euros). A favorable evolution of exchange rates, especially of the US dollar against the euro, led to an almost balanced financial result (previous year: EUR -2 million). As pre-tax income hit a black zero, there were virtually no income taxes. Nevertheless, they led Kapsch TrafficCom to declare a red zero as the result for the period of the first quarter 2022/23 (previous year: 3 million euros). The result for the period attributable to shareholders amounts to EUR -1 million (previous year: EUR 3 million), which corresponds to a profit per share of EUR -0.10 (previous year: EUR 0.24).

It is a recurring seasonal trend that during the first quarter of the fiscal year, the variation in working capital leads to negative free cash flow. In the first quarter of 2022/23, it amounted to -22 million EUR (previous year: -11 million EUR). As a result, net debt increased to €184 million (31 March 2022: €158 million) and the equity ratio decreased to 14%. Total assets amounted to €497 million as of June 30, 2022 (March 31, 2022: €512 million).

Segment results for the first quarters of 2022/23.
