Frank Lloyd Wright’s final lists for $8.95 million in Arizona

The latest home designed by longtime architect Frank Lloyd Wright has gone on the market for $8.95 million – and the current owner is hoping to find someone to carry on his legacy.

Known as the “Circular Sun House”, the property was built in 1967 in Phoenix, Arizona.

“The house was completely renovated in 1995 by the owner, who at the time was Linda Milton,” Deanna Peters, the HomeSmart agent marketing this listing told The Post. “And she really saved the house when she did all the renovations, because it was in pretty bad shape. She did some major structural things to the house to make it look really nice. And here we are in 2023, it’s also time to take it to the next level.”

“The house would be really ideal for a local personality who is a true advocate for the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and all he stands for, to own the property and really take it into the 21st century and use it as a property event center or an Airbnb – just give people who want to visit Arizona an idea of what Frank Lloyd Wright’s story is really about,” Peters added.

The house spans 3,095 square feet.

Comprised of three bedrooms and three bathrooms, the unique property spans over 3,000 square feet. It was originally built as a five-bedroom, but Peters explained there was an office above the house, a “special library off the living room” and a den or media room, which may be a fourth room.

Among the things that can be updated to coincide with modern times: kitchen appliances, flooring and lighting.

Peters also said that adding a garage somewhere wouldn’t take away from the design of the house.

(The architect was known for not building his homes with garages because he saw them as spaces built for clutter.)

“Most of his homes have carports,” Peters said. “People who have a $100,000 or $200,000 car won’t want it exposed to the elements. But we don’t want to detract from the beautiful design of the house. »

Every house Wright designed has a unique chimney – but this particular house, the chimney is an inverted piece of stone, which Peters described as a “Guggenheim Museum replica”.

The house is one of 14 circular houses Wright designed out of the more than 1,000 houses he created.

Designed to blend into the curves of the surrounding desert mountain, the home offers sweeping views of Palm Canyon and the city below.

Curved walls of golden-hued Filipino mahogany cover the three bedrooms and the hallway, reflecting the natural light of Palm Canyon, the listing notes.

“I would really like to see someone buy the house who really sees the value in it. I mean it’s the Mona Lisa of real estate,” Peters said. “You can’t even put a value on that house. .”
