Gestalt Community Schools buys Malco Majestic for $2.5 million – FOX13 News Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Gestalt Community Schools recently purchased the Malco Majestic property in Hickory Hill for $2.5 million.

With this purchase, the local charter school system obtained an 80,000 square foot facility and 17 acres of land.

Gestalt is planning an expansion that will include a new facility for its Power Center Academy K-8 schools in southeast Memphis, which is located 3 miles from the existing school.

Since 2008, Gestalt Community Schools has served the Hickory Hill community.

In 2010, Gestalt purchased downtown Eden Square to build its Power Center Academy middle school.

In 2018, the network bought the Mendenhall Square shopping center, where two of their PCA schools are now located.

The Malco property is the third property the local charter school network has purchased during its multi-year community revitalization project.

Over the next two months, Gestalt will hold meetings with community members and potential partners to determine the needs and possibilities of the 17 acres of land.

Early community meetings generated ideas for an urban farm, a fine arts facility, a green space for sports, fitness and social engagement, and more affordable housing.

“We believe that school-community partnership is essential for a thriving education system,” said Yetta Lewis, CEO and co-founder of Gestalt Community Schools. “Hickory Hill is a thriving community with a rich history; strong community partners; and great opportunities. Since our founding, one of Gestalt’s top priorities has been to rebuild and revitalize the communities where our scholars live, learn and play. This broadens our impact. “
